The Trip Of A Lifetime

Visit a ghost town, swim in the longest free-flowing river in Oregon, see one of the seven wonders of Oregon, search for dinosaurs, cruise through the ponderosa pines, make memories of a lifetime.

Itinerary

  • We will get together for an optional (but strongly recommended) welcome dinner to go over last minute details for the trip, day 1 route details, and distribute bins for personal gear.

  • On Day 1 we will meet at Good Bike in downtown Prineville between 8 and 8:30 am for breakfast burritos, coffee, and to load up gear.

You will depart the bike shop at 9 am and head north, staying on pavement for the first 20 or so miles of the day, climbing a little over 2000 feet, before hitting gravel. You’ll continue on gravel for the remainder of the day, with a gradual descent into the ghost town of Ashwood where we will camp for the evening.

You can expect to roll into camp to an assortment of snacks, a recovery zone, and some time to set up your tent and relax before dinner. We will serve a family style dinner at approximately 6 pm.

  • Day 2 will start with coffee and a family style breakfast while we cover details about the days ride. After breakfast riders will break down their camp, pack up their bins, fill water bottles, and pack a lunch or choose snacks from the lunch station before rolling out at approximately 9 am.

Day 2 is a slightly shorter and less climby day, but you will spend 100% of it on gravel so don’t underestimate the difficulty! We’ll end at beautiful Priest Hole where you can again expect a snack spread and a recovery station, but also will have the opportunity to take a dip and have a float.

Again, riders will have downtime to set up tents, kick their feet up and relax, read a book before we serve dinner at approximately 6 pm. Post dinner we will play games and hang out as everyone winds down for bed.

  • As always, we will start the day with a tasty breakfast and some coffee. Day 3 is a cruisy day that includes a stop at one of the most beautiful spots in Oregon, the Painted Hills. We encourage riders to explore this area as much as they want and you may want to carry a bike lock on Day 3 so that you can park your bike and walk the famous boardwalks!

After leaving the Painted Hills you’ll cruise to the small town of Mitchell, Oregon where we will enjoy a night in beds and a shower at the SpokenHostel and a dinner out at Tiger Town brewing.

  • We’ll fuel up for the longest and hardest day of the trip with a big breakfast at the hostel before hopping on your bike and venturing into the Ponderosa forests of the Ochoco National Forest.

Expect beautiful gravel roads, view points, a mid-ride lunch stop at Walton Lake where you can take a dip if you’d like. You can expect one mile on a slightly busier road before you’re back on gravel and heading for our last camp of the trip.

In the evening we’ll have a big dinner, a (completely optional) dance party, and a toast to the trip before tucking in for one last night under the stars.

  • We’ll keep day 5 fairly short and fairly easy so that folks departing can hit the road. After breakfast we will mostly coast (and mostly on pavement) back into Prineville and Good Bike where we will have a cooler of cold beverages and a little thank you gift for you to remember your experience.

Join us on this adventure of a lifetime!
