Itinerary
-
We will get together for an optional (but strongly recommended) welcome dinner to go over last minute details for the trip, day 1 route details, and distribute bins for personal gear.
Lodging available at the Mitchell Spoken Hostel!
-
On Day 1 we will meet at Spoken Hostel in downtown Mitchell between 8 and 8:30 am for breakfast burritos, coffee, and to load up gear.
You will depart the hostel at 9 am and head south and beginning a demanding gravel climb to Big Summit Prairie. You’ll continue on gravel for the remainder of the day, gradually rolling through Ochoco high country towards your first camp at Walton Lake.
You can expect to roll into camp to an assortment of snacks, a recovery zone, and some time to set up your tent and relax before dinner. Enjoy a dip in the lake before a family style dinner at approximately 6 PM.
-
Day 2 will start with coffee and a family style breakfast while we cover details about the days ride. After breakfast riders will break down their camp, pack up their bins, fill water bottles, and pack a lunch or choose snacks from the lunch station before rolling out at approximately 9 am.
Day 2 is your queen stage for the three day ride. At a little over 50 miles, its a demanding day…but with only 3500 feet of climbing and about half of the day spent cruising beautiful pavement through the canyons of Eastern Oregon we think you’ll enjoy it!
We’ll end at beautiful Priest Hole where you can again expect a snack spread and a recovery station, but also will have the opportunity to take a dip and have a float.
Again, riders will have downtime to set up tents, kick their feet up and relax, read a book before we serve dinner at approximately 6 pm. Post dinner we will play games and hang out as everyone winds down for bed.
-
As always, we will start the day with a tasty breakfast and some coffee. The third and final day comes with its fair share of climbing, but also a visit to one of the most beautiful spots in Oregon, the Painted Hills. We encourage riders to explore this area as much as they want and you may want to carry a bike lock on Day 3 so that you can park your bike and walk the famous boardwalks!
After leaving the Painted Hills you’ll cruise back to Mitchell and to the end of our journey. We’ll be stationed at the hostel to pick up any rented gear, gear bins, and have a snack and maybe a celebratory beverage with the group!
